1. No clock change this year

For the first time, British Columbians won't "fall back" on the first Sunday of November. B.C. has moved to permanent daylight time: the last clock change was March 8, 2026, and nothing changes on November 1, 2026.

Expect lighter evenings and darker winter mornings than you're used to. From November to March, Victoria will also be one hour ahead of Washington State, which matters if you take the ferry to Port Angeles or drive down to Seattle.

2. Remembrance Day ceremonies: Wednesday, November 11

Remembrance Day is a statutory holiday in B.C. This year it falls on a Wednesday, so schools, banks, Canada Post and government offices are closed, while most shops and restaurants stay open.

The provincial ceremony takes place at the cenotaph in front of the B.C. Legislature on Belleville Street, with a parade along the Inner Harbour. In recent years it started around 10:30 a.m., with Wharf, Government, Belleville and Humboldt streets closed from about 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In 2025 the City of Victoria also offered free parking in city parkades. The 2026 details are usually posted in early November.

Most municipalities hold their own ceremony the same morning. Saanich has confirmed 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. at the Saanich Cenotaph, 770 Vernon Avenue. Langford gathers at Veterans Memorial Park, Esquimalt at Memorial Park, Sidney parades from the Mary Winspear Centre to the cenotaph on Sidney Avenue, and Central Saanich meets in Brentwood Bay. Times for these haven't been announced yet; most started between 10:00 and 10:50 a.m. last year.

Tip: Arrive 30 minutes early, wear a rain jacket rather than carrying an umbrella, and be ready for two minutes of silence at 11:00 a.m.

3. The Goldstream salmon run

Every fall, tens of thousands of salmon, mostly chum, swim up the Goldstream River in Langford to spawn. The run lasts about nine weeks from mid-October and usually peaks around Remembrance Day. Numbers vary a lot from year to year, from a few thousand after the 2021 floods to more than 30,000 in strong years.

From late November into December, bald eagles gather on the lower river to feed. The Goldstream Nature House near the estuary has exhibits and volunteers during the run; 2026 hours haven't been posted, so check BC Parks before you go. Park entry is free.

Tip: Go before 10 a.m. for parking. Keep dogs leashed and out of the water, don't throw anything into the river, and stay on the paths so you don't trample the spawning beds.

4. Victoria International Wine Festival: November 6 and 7

The Victoria International Wine Festival has moved from early October to November this year. Tourism Victoria lists it for November 6 and 7, 2026 at the Victoria Conference Centre, 720 Douglas Street, with hundreds of wines from around the world. Sessions are ticketed separately, and the Saturday evening tasting usually sells out first. It's a 19+ event, and the downtown venue is an easy bus or cab ride home.

5. U SPORTS men's soccer championship at UVic: November 12 to 15

The University of Victoria hosts the 54th U SPORTS men's soccer championship at Centennial Stadium from November 12 to 15, 2026. Eight teams play a single-elimination bracket: quarterfinals on Thursday, semifinals on Friday and the medal games on Sunday. The UVic Vikes qualify as hosts.

It's UVic's fifth time hosting, and the last time, in 2011, the Vikes won the national title. Tournament and day passes are sold through U SPORTS.

Tip: Prefer your sport indoors? The Victoria Royals (WHL) play home games at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre through November; check the team's schedule.

6. Early holiday markets and craft fairs

November is when the craft fairs start, which makes it a good month to shop early from local makers. Event listings show the Calico Christmas Market on November 14 and the Magic of Christmas Artisan Market on November 20 at Eagle Ridge Centre in Langford.

At the end of the month, Out of Hand, one of Victoria's longest-running artisan markets, is listed for November 26 to 29, 2026 at the Crystal Garden downtown. Confirm the dates on the organizer's site before you go. The Moss Street Market in Fernwood continues on Saturday mornings.

7. The Nutcracker at the Royal Theatre: November 27 to 29

Dance Victoria brings the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's Nutcracker to the Royal Theatre, 805 Broughton Street, with the Victoria Symphony, November 27 to 29, 2026. There are five performances, including weekend matinees that suit families with young kids. Local children aged 7 to 15 dance in the production after auditioning with Dance Victoria. Buy from the official box office rather than resale sites.

8. Late November: the holiday season begins

From mid-November the city starts to light up. The Festival of Trees at The Bay Centre opens November 18, Lights of Wonder in Centennial Square switches on in late November, and the Santa Claus Parade is expected downtown on the evening of Saturday, November 28. Oak Bay, Sidney and Langford also hold tree lightings in late November or early December; 2026 dates are still to come.

Bigger December traditions, like Butchart Gardens' Magic of Christmas and the IEOA truck light convoy, start in early December.
